God is in the Detail
In 2002, Horatio T birdbath and Joe Record collaborated on a mural wall at Gino’s. You know the one, it’s a bit of a landmark, can’t miss it. Every now and then it gets a touch up. Last Thursday I spotted Horatio doing a bit of work.

Jus Burger Fremantle
Jus Burger has been open for over a month now and you should stick your head in the door ’cause it’s rocking the best mural in the 6000s. The Greetings from Fremantle makes the place.

Jus Burger Fremantle is located at the old fish market corner at Fremantle Markets, South Terrace. Open 7 days: YEAY somewhere to eat on a Monday. Check out their new menu.
Update 5th July 2011: Walked by there last night to check out who did the mural and it was these guys.
A Few Things That Caught My Eye

Love that the little window fits into the mural.

There's a whole wall of painted randomness plus a bit of cow origami at Missy Moos.

Down in at corner of the wall and window outside Wild Poppy.
Horrie Long Reserve Dogs
I’ve been kind of obsessed with these dogs for a while. Don’t ask me why, all I know is that they are Awesome (with a capital A). Look at them all 2D, slightly wonky and amazing. It’s all slightly haphazard but it works for me.

Horrie Long Reserve Dogs
You can see them in all their glory at the Horrie Long Reserve.
Coffee Mythology on South Terrace
I saw this new mural by Reboot yesterday on the side of Aubergine on South Terrace and I popped by this morning to take a photo. While I was snapping away the owner came out and asked if I liked it and I said I did. He also said some people thought he was mad getting it painted on the side of his café but he loves it. He told me it’s a interpretation of the fable of how coffee was discovered…
An Ethiopian goatherd noticed when his goats ate the red berries from a particular bush they became all hyper and stated jumping around. He tried them himself and bingo the same effect. He brought his discovery to a holy man and he wasn’t having any of it and threw his berries in to the fire then a wonderful smell filled the room. They pulled the beans from the fire, ground them and put them in water and blah blah blah Starbucks etc.
He also said he had a giant frame planned for the same wall where people can write their own messages.
More Concrete Art
I came across this mural on Henry Street today. I love it and am wondering how long it’s been there. Most likely a piece from AC4CA – does anyone know who the artist is?
Launderette Woe
Love Freo has been out to investigate some concerning changes to a much loved South Freo institution, the launderette on the corner of South Terrace and Scott Street. Now this place is loved for its colourfully painted walls, its wacky people size cartoons and it’s many, many polite notices about how to exit after closing time (the automatic door shuts itself at 9.30pm).

The People Size Paintings
It also had some subtle features which really set it apart, the nicest of which where little chrome halogen spotlights that lit the room, a machine that actually made decent coffee and a small but perfectly formed noticeboard that was well used by locals to advertise their wares.
Now it’s not just locals who have come to love this place. It’s a well known stop-off for travellers passing through Freo who need to wash their travel-weary clothes but like a half-decent place in which to do so.

Not a machine, just a table top.
(Love Freo recognises that the machine may have gone for repairs, and the bright lights may have been thrust upon them, but it just ain’t the same)
New Mural on Leake Street
John Nixon’s Leake Street Mural called “AC4CA Project 6″ from 2003 has been replaced. If you remember it was a large orange-red dot on a white background in the car park. Now there are large silver stripes, unfortunately I don’t know who did this one.

Mini Mural
A new mini-mural at the very end of South Terrace near Wilson Park: not great, not terrible.
Zeds Fish and Chips
Reds, now called Zeds, Fish and Chips on the edge of Freo is under new management and has a new look.
