North Freo Water Sliders Party 2011
The North Freo Water Sliders Party hit, well, North Freo on Sunday. Organised by individuals who are just out to have a good time on a sunny day, NFWSP stands out as one of the best community events in the Freo calendar.
I ask you to marvel at the big long strip of black plastic it was super hot, almost molten. So hats off to the organizers and super-crazies who took the inaugural run down the monster slide wearing nothing but Speedoes and other types of revealing snug fitting swimwear.
Keep track of future NFWSP by joining the Group on FaceBook. Sweet.

South Beach Cafe
One of the great things about living in Freo is the constant holiday feel, e.g. starting your day with a swim in the ocean and a coffee at South Beach Cafe, just a few meters from the beach. It’s a mix between kiosk and cafe – not fancy, but beachy. The coffee is good, the food looked great (we’ll try next time!), you can bring your dog, read the newspaper, meet some friends (as per the cafe’s slogan “Where friends meet”) and start your day in a relaxed Freo manner. And if you wonder why the roof looks familiar, take a look at the Port Authority.

The Santa Dash
My camera cable has been MIA for a while so it’s taken me a while to post these photos from the Santa Dash.
It’s quite weird happening across a field of Santas and even weirder seeing them tearing off up Marine Terrace travelling hell-for-leather.

Lighthouse to Leighton
Janine’s tip for this Saturday – Ocean racing Freo style: Starting at Phillip Point Rottnest, off the coast of Perth, the inaugural Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton, presented by the WA Kitesurfing Association (WAKSA) will set sail on Saturday December 11, with competitors speeding across the Indian Ocean on the Gage Roads channel and finishing at Leighton Beach, North Fremantle. Hailing from France, Caizergues recently smashed the world speed sailing record in Luderitz, Namibia, clocking in at over 100 kilometres per hour. The battle for the title of ‘the fastest speed sailor in the world’ is far from over and 50 local, national and international kitesurfers will have the opportunity to challenge Caizergues. With the Doctor blowing, the race is expected to take between 30 and 40 minutes for the fastest kiters.
Get down to the beach from noon to try out kitesurfing with a professional instructor, watch some hot kitesurfing freestyle action, and enjoy some great tunes.
What: The first ever kitesurfing event to run from Rottnest Island to Fremantle
Where: Rottnest Island to Leighton Beach
Who: One of the fastest kitesurfers, and previous world record holder, Alex Caizergues, along with up to 50 local and national experienced kitesurfers.
When: Saturday 11 December 2010
Pre-race entertainment will commence at Leighton Beach from 12noon. Kiters will leave Rottnest from 2.30pm and the last kiter is estimated to finish at approximately 4pm. A medal ceremony will be held at 4.30pm.
Cost: Free to watch (event made possible with assistance from Fremantle Ports and Royal Life Saving WA)

Beach Love

South Beach
Usually it’s the sunny and hot days which make me want to go to the beach, while it’s actually far more relaxing on overcast days like this. Taking a book down and just chilling out is like being on holidays.
South Beach Hipstamatised
Monday mornings aren’t that bad if spent with a dog down at South Beach. Off to work now, just as the sun’s come out behind the clouds.

Gemini I
Sea Rescue Fremantle officially added a new boat, Gemini I, to their fleet today ready to go for the summer. It can go Freo to Rottnest in 11 minutes, impressive.
It was launched with a traditional mix of alcohol and religion.
