A Rather Upmarket Garage Sale
B&M – A Great New Store for High Street
Love Freo dropped by the opening party of the new B&M store this evening. It was just a flying visit but long enough to check out it’s great collection of bite-size wares.
They have a full range of nicks and nacks, great stocking filler type things and bits and pieces you never knew you wanted, but actually do. I particularly liked the card cut-out reindeer heads that come in a choice of two sizes no less.
B&M is a very welcome addition to the High Street, in the same sort of style as the equally groovy Remedy just up the road. Freo has come under a bit of stick in the press this week for having a below average shopping scene. I guess more shops like this will help to redress the balance, but that said, Fremantle isn’t so bad: Melbourne it may not be, but I still can’t think of a place in the Metro area I’d rather be pottering about on a Saturday afternoon.
B&M is well worth checking out in the week running up to the wrapping event of the year, and if you can’t make it to the store check out their stylish website: www.bandmstore.com.au

Where Freo Shops for Christmas
This year I’m going to avoid the pre-Christmas madness and get my presents early. I think I’m going to skip the city altogether and try to get as much as I can this weekend at Bazaar, Freo’s very own exquisite Christmas Market in the beautiful garden of Fremantle Arts Centre. The weather is going to be perfect, not too hot, not too cold. For the very first time their Friday night market will be open to everyone, plus Saturday and Sunday all day shopping (as usual). Besides beautiful goods and presents there’s going to be live music, DJs, eateries and – very important – a bar. Sounds like relaxed Christmas shopping. And while I’m there I can visit the fabulous Home Open exhibition again.

Vintage Vixens and Vamps at the Town Hall
Went to the VV&V Market to day and my god the place was packed. Plus there was all this other stuff going on like fashion shows, burlesque dancers and an I love Lucy impersonator. I didn’t take too many photos as I needed both hands to go through all the racks and racks of clothes. The Town Hall was a great venue for it.
Vintage Vixens and Vamps Hits Freo
Do you know what’s better than stuff? Vintage stuff. A vintage market hits Freo this weekend, hurray. The last ones I went to I had to travel to Leederville and Mount Lawley. I know… the horror… leaving Freo… sometimes has to be done. But this Sunday Vintage Vixens and Vamps will be at the Fremantle Town Hall (8 William Street, Fremantle) on Sunday the 17th of October from 12noon until 5pm. With over 30 stalls full of vintage stuff.
Here’s the FaceBook event page for more info.
One for Beer Lovers
While the Oktoberfest in Munich may be over, you can still get the original Oktoberfest beer at your local bottle shop – the Freo Doctor Liquor Store. It even comes with an original Weissbierglas (wheat beer glass). And if you’re not into German beer, they have an impressive selection of boutique beers from around the world. Beer tasting takes place at the store’s very own beer club: the next one is on Wednesday 13th October. The club is popular – book early to secure your spot. Prost!

Where Freo shops
Going to school on a Sunday? Of course, but only to South Fremantle Senior High School – for the Sunday Farmers’ Market. What to bring? Empty bags and plenty of cash. What to take? Everything you need for the week. Who will you meet? Your neighbours, old friends, new friends, happy children and nice dogs. Why is it so good? Starting your Sunday with shopping fresh produce in a relaxed atmosphere under old trees, while a lovely girl is playing the saxophone – perfect. And if you are hungry you can have your breakfast right there, just chose from one of the many food stalls. I tried the crepes and they were lovely.
If you haven’t been there already (and I bet you have), check it out next Sunday:

Expect local and organic produce, fresh milk, free range meat and eggs, fish, honey, baked goods, hot breakfast, flowers, plants, olive oil, and more. Opening on Sunday 20 June 2010. The Butcher Shop Presents: Kingbrown Issue 6 Exhibition
The Butcher Shop has arrived in Freo. This is great, Freo was lacking a place that sells quality spray paint. They also sell clothes and run exhibitions… and there’s one on soon featuring engraved Kingbrown bottles. Dave Misled and Creepy are two of the artists that have works on show.
Have a look at the flyer below for more info.
In other news…

Old Values
I’m not too sure how you class Old Values… antique dealer: no, jumble sale emporium: yes. And it’s great, why? Because it’s open on Sundays and that really the only time I have the time to do some heavy duty browsing. It takes a long time to sort through the good the bad and the ugly.
I was halfway to the checkout with this before I realised I don’t have a record player. I will have to rectify that.
