Top of the Pops
It’s not often in life that you get to say that you’re number one at something. This month we’re top of the charts over at New Edition and pleased as punch about it.

Where do you belong?
Lily Hibberd (VIC) is an artist and writer who considers the notion of community and belonging in the intimate performance Being of the Book at Moores Apartment this Friday and Saturday. She invites people to participate in her performance work by loaning a book to be read, or engaging in a one-on-one reading.
Lily asks that contributors send her books about belonging to a place. She will assemble a collection of donated books, which visitors to her performance will choose from to have read aloud. Sessions will last approximately fifteen minutes and participants are encouraged to reflect on the experience afterward.
Everyone is invited to send in or nominate a book and to take part in the performance. All books will be returned after the performance.

July is Fremantle Poetry Month
Fremantle Press’ Poetry Month kicked off last week at the Arts Centre. Unfortunately I missed the event, despite making a half-promise that I’d be there to see what was going on. Shame on me. I won’t be making that mistake again though, as there are a heap of good events lined up for the whole of July.
Tomorrow night there’s an event called ‘Meet The Poets’ at the Freo Library, one of the highlights of which will be a reading by John Mateer, a critically acclaimed South African born poet, who seems to have travelled about a bit and lived in quite a few places, WA among them. Here’s the man himself, strikin’ a pose:
You can keep up to date with what is going on during the Poetry Month by following their blog: http://fremantlepress.blogspot.com/ and we’ll no doubt get to a few events as well.

Tonight: Concert and Book Launch

Members of The Triffids, Perth band The Morning Night and poet John Kinsella will perform at Fremantle Arts Centre TONIGHT to celebrate the release of Vagabond Holes: David McComb & The Triffids and Beautiful Waste: Poetry by David McComb.
David McComb formed The Triffids in 1978 in Perth. Relocating first to the eastern states and then to London in 1984, the band divided its time between Australia and Europe for the remainder of the decade, touring and recording (among other works) the acclaimed albums; Born Sandy Devotional (1986), In the Pines (1986) and Calenture (1987). After The Triffids disbanded McComb continued writing and performing with bands — The Blackeyed Susans; The Red Ponies; costar — and released a solo album, Love of Will, in 1994. He died in 1999 at age 36.
Show some love and rug up for a free show. From 6.00 pm. RSVP to the launch at admin@fremantlepress.com.au
