Myre Fremantle We Love You

18 Oct 2013
October 18, 2013

MYRE doors have been opened to the public for just over a week and you really pay the great folk inside a visit. We were impressed with the undertaking. This is NOT a pop-up shop, but a really cool new venue for fashion and accessories, art and design, salons and beauty, and food and drink. Everything is locally designed, planned, made and sold. It’s a place to hang out, nurture individual style, to dare and be different. You can look forward to meeting the designers, makers and doers, who have managed to make this space more inspiring and welcoming than it has ever been.

August 10, 2012

Ever since they opened we’ve loved the beautiful window displays of the Corner Store on South Terrace. So we did a bit of investigating and tracked down the woman responsible: the lovely Kylie Thevenau who kindly took the time to answer a few questions about the work she’s done…

Purveyors of Really Cool Badges

12 Mar 2011
March 12, 2011

Love Freo is in love with the shiny badge making machine in Freo’s Butcher Shop. They have different sizes and different backs you can choose from for your very own badge design. The badge making itself is a simple but crafty process. Love Freo badges coming soon, I guess.

Old Skills

I like handpainted signs. They have so much more charme with their little imperfections. This sign for Freo’s Harbour Theatre has never been totally completed – you can still see some sketched lettering on the arrow. I’d love to find out who painted the sign and if this person is still working in the trade.

Creative Chit Chat

A few days ago: Pecha Kucha Night in Thessaloniki

Have you heard of Pecha Kucha, the creative networking event taking place in cities around the globe? It’s based on a simple but brilliant concept called ’20 x 20′: Each speaker (mostly designers, architects, artists or other creatives) brings 20 slides and has only 20 seconds to talk about each one. That way things keep moving pretty quickly which makes for an interesting night. ‘Pecha Kucha’ started in Tokyo in 2003 and has since then become a massive movement for creatives all over the world. Berlin, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Kyiv, Damascus Panama, Maastricht, … the calendar of events is pretty impressive and the best is – Pecha Kucha is once again happening in Perth, well Freo actually (even better!). Presenters are:

Alex Fossilo : Furniture Designer
Katherine Perry : Photographer
James Hensby : Graphic Designer
Elisha Quintal : Fashion Designer
Giles Harrison : Architectural Graduate
Sarah Landro : Photographer
Robert Buritti : Arts Buisness
Marisa Santosa : Graphic Designer
Mike Buttery : Architect
Adon Buckley : Architectural Graduate

Don’t miss it!

Design Goes Footy

01 Oct 2010
October 1, 2010

I really love the new look of the Freo Dockers. The logo is like the marriage of historic footy club emblems and contemporary design. And the jumpers look hot. Go Freo, great move! Looking forward to some well designed supporters gear for the next season.
