The Polyphonic Spree at The FAC
We got free tickets (I think a lot of people did) to go see Polyphonic Spree at The FAC. As you know free stuff is the best kind of stuff so we hot footed over there after the Ocean Calling exhibition.
Had the usual bag search at the door but the security staff insisted I check my camera in with them. They declared it a professional one and that I could take photos with an intent to sell, gasp. I have an Olympus E-420: any professional photographer would balk at the thought of using it “professionally”. I didn’t care because I had 2 other sneaky mini-cameras in my bag, not because I’m dedicated to the cause but because I haven’t sorted thought my bag in about a month. Meanwhile, metres away a few people smoked a big spliff as security saw to my camera.
Anyway the show was entertaining but for me only really picked up near the end when they got changed in to their white robes for the encore and sang Lithium by Nirvana and Something In The Air by Thunderclap Newman. The crowd loved it and they had these cannon things that shot glittery paper in the air: looked really cool.
You might notice that everyone was wearing feathered headdresses, I don’t know what was going on with them I arrived late.
Here’s a small video clip at 0:19 the cannons do their thing.

Sheesh, and my bag wasn’t even searched at all! We arrived late but still before the Spree started. There was some confetti stuff at the beginning somewhere too, but not as much as later
There was a table giving away the headdresses, face masks, necklaces and slap wristbands with led flashing lights. Was all SoCo stuff.
I did see some people dressed up in their own crazy outfits though!
Good times
Ah it was all SoCo I thought it might have been the band that organised that.
Well, they might have had something to do with it, but the necklaces and the bracelets have the SoCo logo, and Tim DeLaughter said in an interview recently that he thought SoCo would be handing out stuff to help with the Carnivale atmosphere.
Here some photos of the concert: http://www.fasterlouder.com.au/gallery/14502/3/The-Polyphonic-Spree.htm
I wondered what was going on – I had a class on Sunday and from my window it looked like hundreds of chickens had been slaughtered – maybe not slaughtered but seriously plucked!
